Minister Tang Renjian met respectively with Burmese Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung and Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Dith Tina in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Sept. 16, 2023, during the 7th China-ASEAN Agricultural Cooperation Forum. They exchanged views on strengthening bilateral agricultural cooperation.
While meeting with U Min Naung, Minister Tang stated that China and Myanmar, being good neighbors and highly complementary in agriculture, have achieved significant results in agricultural cooperation. China is willing to hold the second meeting of the China-Myanmar Agricultural Cooperation Committee at an appropriate time and stands ready to discuss future cooperative actions in areas such as food security and rural revitalization to help Myanmar improve food security.
U Min Naung thanked China for its long-term support and assistance in Myanmar's agricultural development. He hoped China would continue providing technical guidance to Myanmar in the fields of mariculture and saline-tolerant rice cultivation, among others. He also said Myanmar welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in agriculture in Myanmar.
When meeting with Dith Tina, Minister Tang proposed that bilateral agricultural cooperation would focus on the implementation of the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries on the “Diamond Hexagon” cooperation framework, the establishment of a joint working mechanism, development of “Fish and Rice Corridor”, S&T exchanges and economic and trade cooperation on freshwater aquaculture and rice cultivation to boost agricultural modernization in Cambodia.
Dith Tina spoke highly of agricultural cooperation between Cambodia and China, looking forward to China’s support in upgrading industrial chains and value chains for major agricultural products such as rice in Cambodia.
Among the meetings’ participants were Vice Minister Ma Youxiang and Chief Economist Wei Baigang, respectively.
