Minister Tang Renjian met with Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, President of the International Horse Sports Confederation (IHSC), in Beijing on Aug. 23, 2023. 

Minister Tang stated that China has traditionally been an important nation for horse-keeping, enjoying diverse horse breeds and profound equine culture. Over the past years, China’s equine industry, technology, and culture have maintained sound momentum. China appreciates IHSC’s role and influence in the global equine industry. China stands ready to intensify cooperation with IHSC in areas such as the cultivation of veterinary professionals, standard-setting of cross-border horse transportation, and equine disease-free zones. China hopes to work with IHSC to accelerate the involvement of Chinese horses in international racing events and expedite the transformation of the pastoral livestock system to benefit more Chinese farmers and herders.   

President Engelbrecht-Bresges appreciated the importance attached to the progress of the equine industry by the MARA and its supportive response to IHSC’s involvement in the equine industry in China, expressing his willingness to contribute to high-quality development.   

Vice Minister Ma Youxiang attended the meeting.
