The first meeting of the Subcommittee on Agricultural Cooperation of the China-Nigeria Intergovernmental Committee was held via video conference on July 18, 2022. Vice Minister Ma Youxiang and Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nigeria, co-chaired the meeting.
Vice Minister Ma reviewed the progress in agricultural investment and trade, S&T exchanges, and personnel training between China and Nigeria, saying that China and Nigeria enjoy solid foundation and vast potential in agricultural cooperation.
China is willing to work with Nigeria to give full play to the steering role of the Subcommittee on Agricultural Cooperation by making good use of China-Nigeria agricultural technology demonstration center, and strengthening demonstration, personnel exchanges, and economic and trade cooperation in the production and processing of rice, cassava, corn and peanuts. Permanent Secretary Umakhihe agreed with Vice Minister Ma and expressed his support.
The two sides also exchanged views on strengthening dialogue between agricultural sectors, bilateral economic and trade cooperation in agriculture, and agricultural S&T exchanges, among other things.
